Almost anything can be used to create a noise box. Anything that creates an interesting sound when resonating! As we are using a contact microphone, sounds that resonate mostly via direct contact are probably the most interesting, as these sounds are not very much audible via air. This will create the sounds typical for the Mikrophonie way of creating sounds!

A flexible noise box that can be extended or changes is probably even better, the following elements might be handy:

  • A ground rail, to attach different kinds (or sizes) of rods;
  • Bars, to stick (larger) things between (actually two nodges with two bars between)
  • Nodges, to attach springs or rubber bands (created with a bolt and nut)
  • Spring door stopper
  • Small music box, jaw harp or finger harp
  • Spinner
  • Scratch surface
  • Free disk or bowl (warning: might be more loud than other elements)
  • Threaded hole, to add attachments via a bolt
